Shopify POS Tile Migration Guide (Old => New)

What

Shopify is force sunsetting legacy "POS link" tiles. Our app is NOT going away, but merchants must migrate to Filljoy's newer app tiles which have all the same functionality. Eventually, Shopify will block access to these old tiles and remove them from all POS devices.

Deadline: Wednesday, February 5, 2025

However, we strongly recommend migrating as soon as possible in order to minimize disruption to staff and store operations.

How-To Guide

Go to Add Tile > App > Price Embedded Barcode Scanner > Scan Barcode (2025 stable release). Tap Save when done.

Your new tile has the same functionality as the old one and automatically detects whether or not you have a handheld scanner. If have a handheld scanner then you can scan using this tile using your handheld and the camera will not appear; otherwise, the camera will automatically appear and you can scan using the camera.

Once you've gotten used to our new tile and confirmed it's working well for your store, you can remove it from your home screen by long-pressing it:

FAQ

Why do we have to migrate? Can we stay on the old tiles?

Shopify is force sunsetting legacy POS Link tiles which means eventually the old tiles will cease to function. App developers are responsible for communicating this to merchants and helping to facilitate migrations to newer tiles.

Are these new POS UI Extension tiles stable?

Yes, Filljoy launched this POS UI Extension tile in summer 2023. Many merchants have been using these tiles in production since then.

Do these newer POS UI Extension tiles offer any benefits over the legacy POS App Links?

Yes! POS UI Extensions are built on a completely different technology stack and render elements natively within Shopify POS. Some benefits include:

  • Significantly faster tile loading time
  • More user-friendly scan barcodes
